First lectures held on Public Management

kekez 4 2Zagreb, February 5, 2016 – Within the framework of the study programme „Governance in institutions of the state", students listened to first lectures on Public Management which were held by prof. Anka Kekez Koštro from the Faculty of Political Science in Zagreb.

In the introductory session, prof. Kekez Koštro presented the three dominant approaches to reform of public administration, New Public Management (NPM), New Public Governance, and Neo- Weberian Administration. Afterwards, professor focused on analysing the main elements of the New Public Management approach, the oldest and the most controversial of approaches to administrative reforms. Professor underlined that NPM developed as an attempt to increase the efficiency of the public administration by introducing elements and methods of the private sector. Following the lecture, students discussed the positive and negative aspects of this approach to public administration reform.

Next week, students will learn more on New Public Governance, more known as good governance approach to public administration reform which developed as a response to NPM.
